Happy 2024. Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, I hope you’ve had a good start to the year.
In 2021, my family and I moved to Mauritius, which lies off the east coast of Africa. One of the many ways in which high-income nations disadvantage low- and middle-income countries is through the imposition of tariffs and the use of withholding taxes to retain a significant proportion of a foreign business’s gross revenue from trade conducted in the high-income nation. Don’t worry, this hasn’t become a tax advice newsletter, it’s just a little background to explain that when we moved, having a European operation proved essential.
What started as a vehicle for me became something bigger and, as we built a great team to handle the fundamentals of publishing, such as legals, royalties and marketing, I thought it made sense to use the infrastructure for others, so we’ve launched Pendulum Rights, an intellectual property and publishing company. It started around my library of books, but we’re looking to quickly grow and will be offering readers the chance to discover new authors, working with established publishers around the world, or publishing directly through Pendulum Books.
GIVEAWAYS
We’re on Twitter as @pendulumcentral – do follow for news of books, screen adaptations, and great giveaways. Next week, we’ll be running a giveaway of a signed hardcover of THE GIRL BEYOND FOREVER, which will be as rare a a pink unicorn, so make sure you’re following @pendulumcentral to enter. We’ll also be giving away copies of all our books throughout the year, so stay tuned.
PENDULUM’S FIRST NOVEL
Pendulum’s first novel – out on 2 March 2024 – is TO KILL A SHADOW, a blistering contemporary conspiracy thriller that introduces readers to activist blogger and investigative reporter Julia Castleton. It’s available to pre-order now, so don’t miss it.
MAKE LIFE BETTER
We’re also building a library of nonfiction, starting with the Everyday Expertise list. Everyday Expertise has already had its first multiple-category international bestseller on Amazon, so check out the books and see if Everyday Expertise can help you as part of its mission to make life better.
FILM & TV
I’ll soon be starting work on the screen adaptation of the Scott Pearce series and am excited to be working with a great UK production team. I’ll share more details as soon as possible. With Pendulum up and running, I’ll be dialing back my personal social media activity to focus on writing, but will keep up this semi-regular Substack newsletter.
MY NEW BOOKS
More soon on my stand-alone novel DEADBEAT, which will be published in autumn, and PRIVATE MONACO, co-written with James Patterson, which is coming out in spring.
Until then, wishing you and yours the very best,
Adam
